The year is but mere hours old and already we have a promise of a 2016 release for the hotly-anticipated Final Fantasy XV. Well, sort of.
According to a New Year’s blog post by Final Fantasy XV’s director Hajime Tabata, the Square-Enix team working on the latest installment of the long-running JRPG series are on track to release the game this year, but he also states it will be hard work to make that happen.
Tabata also takes a moment to thank fans for their support in 2015, stating that he cannot wait to share the finished product with them.

We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016! In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.
I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft.
We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.

Last year, Square-Enix packaged the first demo of FF XV with the port of Final Fantasy Type-O on PS4. It was pretty well-received and crucially for Square-Enix, it provided feedback from the fanbase about any glaring issues they had before the full game’s release. There is still another demo planned for the near future.
We shall see the results of that feedback sooner rather than later then, though it did already seem like a given when it was announced the game was playable from start to finish not long ago.Here’s hoping that there will more news on the likes of Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake this year too, as they also currently suffer from mysterious release date syndrome.
