Speaking during an interview with Bloomberg, CD Projekt RED‘s Gabe Amatangelo has revealed that he plans to direct the full Cyberpunk 2077 sequel after completing work on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Furthermore, he revealed that the sequel will utilise the Unreal Engine from Epic Games.
Jason Schreier offered the following tidbit on his Twitter page while promoting the interview, which talks a length about the ambitious sci-fi title and its upcoming expansion.
Also a little scoop in here: Amatangelo, who started in 2020 and became director of Phantom Liberty a year later, told me that after this he will direct the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Amatangelo helmed the Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.5 that was well-received by fans and fixed many of the issues that were present in the console version of the game since launch. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has been in development for over two years now.
Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty is due for release on September 26, 2023 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Cyberpunk 2077 came out on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in December 2020, and was re-released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with improved visuals, frame rate and more the following year.
