God of War on PS4 looks stunning in first screens

Feast your eyes on the first batch of stunning God of War screenshots following the game’s announcement at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference.

The images have been plucked straight out of the impressive gameplay demo, depicting a bearded Kratos accompanying a young boy (presumably his son or adopted son) on a hunting mission through the forest.

Of course, this being Kratos, it’s not long before the red mist descends and the bald chap launches into a flurry of axe-wielding mayhem, chopping up various Norse-inspired beasties as his companion looks on.

New God of War coming to PS4 with Kratos returning

Developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio, God of War (right now it’s unknown if it will carry a subtitle) has been in development for some time now, and continues many years following the grisly conclusion to God of War III.

Players will once again control Kratos as he battles against a variety of mythical creatures, this time inspired by Norse lore. Despite the trailer giving the impression of a large-scale environment, Sony has confirmed God of War will not be open-world, though it’s obviously far more ambitious than previous entries.

God of War is scheduled to hit PS4 in 2017.
