A fresh rumor concerning the God of War release date has cropped up on the web this week, with retailer Gaming Replay claiming the hotly anticipated action-adventure game will launch exclusively on PS4 this September.
Specifically, the Portuguese outfit has God of War listed for release on September 14, 2017, which does seem a little early considering we’ve heard next to nothing on the game since its unveiling at E3 2016. However, there’s a chance Sony could be prepping a surprise announcement for this year’s showcase, fast-tracking the game for launch this fall.

For now though, we advise you to treat this listing as nothing more than a rumor, at least until we hear something from Sony on the matter. With E3 just over a month away, we shouldn’t have to wait long to see more on the SIE Santa Monica-developed title, which has already been in the works for three years. This isn’t the first time that a major retailer has listed a release date for the game.
God of War PS4 is the latest instalment in Sony’s PlayStation-exclusive, bone-breaking action franchise, and sees returning anti-hero Kratos teaming up with his young son to slaughter more hulking creatures, this time based around Norse mythology. The stoic baldy has learned to somewhat master his rage this time around, and we’re promised a substantial single-player campaign although the inclusion of multiplayer currently remains up in the air.
The God of War franchise debuted on the PS2 back in 2005 and remains one of Sony’s most commercially successful franchises, spawning numerous sequels spanning the PS2, PS3 and PSP. Back in 2015, the format holder issued a remastered version of God of War 3 for the PS4, complete with improved visuals and other enhancements.
