Showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Otsby and Mark Fergus on the incoming God Of War TV series have reportedly left the show after Amazon and Sony chose to go in a different creative direction.
That’s according to a report from Variety, who today claimed that the creative leads hired by Sony and Amazon had written multiple scripts for the show, but seemingly all not exactly to the liking of Sony or Amazon executives.
Variety also reports that Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang from Sony Santa Monica will stay with the series, alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions and Roy Lee from Vertigo, all as executive producers.
It continues that a new writers room will be set, and they will “start fresh” on the coming adaptation. With the shows confirmation dating back to 2022, getting back to the drawing board two years into development will only push it further along in the calendar.
The next big adaptation release from PlayStation Productions is the highly-anticipated second season of HBO’s The Last Of Us, followed quickly by the Until Dawn film.
After that it’s unclear as to when the next adaptation will arrive. Had Judkins, Otsby and Fergus gone ahead with their creative instincts, the answer might’ve been the God Of War series sometime in 2026. Perhaps that’s optimistic, but now an optimistic view could be that we get it by 2028.
