Gran Turismo Sport update 1.02 out now for PS4

Sony and Polyphony Digital have released Gran Turismo Sport update 1.02, which is required for those wanting to take the racing title online.

The latest title update for the PlayStation 4-exclusive racer is pretty weighty, coming in at 12.325GB.

While full patch notes for Gran Turismo Sport update 1.02 are not currently available, we do have the following info on what the patch includes:

  • All car data is updated in order to support rain conditions
  • Adds the opening movie
  • Several tweaks to level design
  • The reward sequence has been updated
  • Several bugs have been corrected

Gran Turismo Sport is due out in North America today and arrives in Europe tomorrow, October 18.

The racing simulation title will feature a total of 17 courses and 40 different layouts, and include over 120 cars at launch. Those in the market for a new PS4 might want to look at picking up the accompanying GT Sport hardware bundle.

Sony confirmed last week that racing legend Lewis Hamilton will play a significant role in the game, dishing out advice for players.

Gran Turismo Sport for PS5?

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has previously said that GT Sport’s car models are so detailed they would not look out of place on the PS5. He also suggested the game could run at 8K on Sony’s next-generation console.

As for the inevitable Gran Turismo 7, Yamauchi-san made it clear that the game is not currently in the pipeline as all focus is on PS4 and GT Sport for the time being.

The Gran Turismo franchise is one of Sony’s biggest first-party properties, having sold over 76 million copies worldwide since 1997. For the first time in the series’ history, GT Sport will feature Porsche cars following EA’s exclusivity deal with the brand wrapping up.
