Take-Two Interactive has revealed during its latest quarterly earnings call that Grand Theft Auto V has shipped 185 million copies worldwide since its launch in September 2013.
Rockstar Games‘ epic crime caper has been selling like hot cakes for years now, although the fact it’s been released on three generations of hardware has definitely help. The game originally launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 before being ported to PS4 and Xbox One with a first-person view and other new features in 2014, and came to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S last year.
Grand Theft Auto V took the series in a new direction as it allowed players to switch between three different characters, each with unique backgrounds. The main storyline sees players carrying out heists to pinch large wads of cash, with Michael, Franklin and Trevor all playing key roles as you jump between each protagonist to complete various tasks and walk away with millions in the bank.
Elsewhere, Take-Two has strongly indicated that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch during its 2025 fiscal year, as the publishing giant is expecting “record levels of operating performance” during this period. This would put GTA VI out between April 2024 — March 2025.
