Layoffs have reportedly hit Halo Studios just one week since the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved, a landmark release that sees the long-running franchise come to PlayStation for the first time.
While an official statement from developer hasn’t been made, a number of staff at Halo Studios have taken to social media to confirm the have lost their jobs. Nick Treitman, a producer at Halo Studios, wrote on LinkedInk, “After 6.5 years working on Halo and dodging just as many rounds of layoffs – it has finally caught up to me. I have nothing but love for Halo and the folks at the studio, this is just a tough reality in the gaming industry right now.”
“Today, I learned my time at Halo Studios will be coming to an end following the successful launch of our latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved,” commented Paul Morris on LinkedIn. “I know this is one of the most challenging job markets our industry has seen, and I know the road ahead won’t be easy.”
Xbox announced a massive restructuring earlier this summer that has resulted in 3,200 people losing their jobs over the course of a year, with many studios impacted. Double Fine Productions has now gone independent as a result of the cuts, and last week announced that it had laid off 23 employees as part of the transition.
Halo Campaign Evolved is out now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is a full remake of the iconic 2001 shooter released for the first Xbox, featuring overhauled character models and environments, as well as a brand new prequel chapter.
