Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill is reportedly set to serve as executive producer on an animated series based on Warhammer 40,000 at Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios, and Games Workshop.
Cavill also in the running to helm a live-action adaptation of the popular franchise, which is being developed alongside this animated project. According to variety, the Warhammer 40,000 animated series will function as a spinoff of the Secret Level animated anthology series by Amazon, which included an episode based on Warhammer 40,000, produced by Blur Studios.
Meanwhile, the new animated series will feature David Wilson as co-creator and director, who previously directed the aforementioned Secret Level Warhammer 40,000 episode. While key plot points have yet to be revealed, it is confirmed that the Deathwatch will feature in the series, who for those unaware are a group of Space Marines that hunt down alien threats.
Executive producer duties will be shared by Tim Miller, the creator of Secret Level, alongside Wilson, Cavill, and Natalie Viscuso. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee is also executive produce alongside Games Workshop’s Andy Smillie.
Amazon currently has a number of projects in the works related to video game IPs, including God of War, Fallout, and Tomb Raider. As previously reported, Kratos actor Ryan Hurst recently suffered an injury while filming for God of War, and is now being recast — Dave Bautista is reportedly in talks to take over the role.
