Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2 and former head honcho at PlatinumGames, has revealed during an interview with Denfaminicogamer that his creativity would have ‘died’ had he remained with the Bayonetta developer.
The former Capcom developer announced in September last year that he was departing PlatinumGames, and famously posted a picture of him leaving the company’s headquarters in a flash motor. However, his most recent interview has revealed that there was no bad blood between him and CEO Atsushi Inaba.

At the time, there was a mismatch between my way of thinking in terms of creativity and the company’s new policy, so CEO (Atsushi) Inaba and I had been negotiating for over 3 months, but we just couldn’t reach an agreement. I felt like my creativity would die if I continued to work there.
I didn’t think at all about what would happen after that. It wasn’t like I quit because I had something I wanted to do, or that I had been offered a new job.
As announced during The Game Awards on Thursday night, Kamiya-san is now working at the newly-formed Clovers on an Okami sequel, much to the delight of fans worldwide. He had previously expressed interest in seeing a follow-up to the much-loved 2006 adventure game, alongside Viewtiful Joe.
