Do you remember the Red Dead Redemption 2 map that was leaked a few years back? Rockstar Games are notorious for keeping details of their games secret until they make a big announcement, but this leaked map originally appeared on NEoGaf back in 2016.
The poster was asked to remove the map, but you can still see it in full below. The RDR2 map could be fake, but the most recent trailer from the open-world wild west adventure suggests otherwise. In the trailer, we see the names of some of the places mentioned on the map.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Map Size Looks Big
The fact that some of the locations in Red Dead Redemption 2 shown in this sprawling open world area still aren’t named suggests that it isn’t complete. However, it’s a good indication on the size of the map, which looks to be two or three times bigger than the original.
Right at the beginning of the trailer, we see a train emblazoned with the name ‘Cornwall’. When they reach the train station we see ‘Heartland Oil Fields’. Other clues that the large RDR2 map may be real came shortly after the leak. TechRadar claimed that a source close to the developer confirmed that it was real, and is an early “art direction map” for the game.
In the official description of the game from Rockstar, we know that there’s also been a robbery in Blackwater by Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde gang, which kick-starts a manhunt. All these areas feature on the original Red Dead Redemption 2 map, so it’s looking highly likely that this is genuine.
As you can see, the Great Plains, home to the Blackwater settlement, nestles on the South West of the map. In the original game, this area was in the North East, suggesting that we’re heading further North in RDR2 as the map expands, but also revisting the likes of Tall Trees and areas around the Great Plains.
So, according to this map, we’ve split up the various locations, settlements, towns and places of interest. Though this definitely isn’t the final version, it’s likely a big chunk of these names will stick, and others may have their names changed.
