Maximum Games’ action role-playing title, Lichdom: Battlemage, has been tested by Digital Foundry and the results are grim, and quite frankly unacceptable on a modern console.
Chief crime? A consistently below-par frame-rate, the likes of which Digital Foundry claim they’ve never seen anything close to as bad as in the last eight years they’ve been testing game performances. This followed by extreme load times and general lack of dazzle to the visuals make for a sickness-inducing horror show. Take a look yourselves and be warned, it does make your head swim a bit.
The game originally released on PC two years ago and had issues, just not to this extent, so quite why it’s come to consoles riddled with problems like this now is baffling. Well, it is until you discover this is made with CryEngine 3, which hasn’t exactly had the best record for performance on consoles in the past (with exceptions). Also it’s worth noting the original developer folded some time ago and Maximum appear to have handled the port itself.
At PSU, we’re not ones for whinging about framerate nonsense, but this is clearly way below the required standard.
You’d hope that it’s just issues that could be ironed out in the time before release, but Lichdom: Battlemage is out now! So it’s hard to imagine that that’ll be the case.
Is Lichdom: Battlemage the worst performing PS4 game you’ve seen?
