PlayStation 3 sales in Japan have slumped 65 percent from the previous week ahead of the launch of the revamped slim model due in early September, reports Media Create.
Sony’s home console managed to shift 2,052 units during the week ended August 24, putting it at the bottom of the hardware pile. By comparison, its predecessor shifted over 3,000 units, while Xbox 360 trumped both machines with just fewer than 9,000 units sold.
PSP managed to muscle its way to second place with just north of 27,000 unit sales, beaten out by the Nintendo DS. Overall it was a decidedly underwhelming week, with sales dropping across the board for all major format. However, with PS3 Slim launching in Japan on September 3, it’s fair to assume the next few weeks will prove far more of an auspicious period for Sony.
