Judge Richard Seeborg dropped the final legal claim against Sony on Thursday in regards to removing the option to install Linux on the Playstation 3.
Many people, like the lead plaintiff Anthony Ventura, felt they had the full right to have access to Linux in the PS3, since the feature came default with the system. The feature was removed from the PS3 because it was a gateway to Jailbreaking, so Sony promptly removed it when the problem arose. Ultimately, Seeborg concluded that consumers didn’t have a proclaimed legal right to have all access to features past the products’ warranty period.
Seeborg closed with this statement: "As a legal matter, plaintiffs have failed to allege facts or articulate a theory on which Sony may be held liable."
