Short of just actually confirming it, in a recent interview with IGN it looks like Konami producer Noriaki Okamura heavily suggested that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be coming to PS5 as part of the Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol.2.
After Vol.1 of the Metal Gear Solid Collection included the first three games in the franchise, and the fact that Metal Gear Solid fans are keenly aware of how numbers work, it’s felt like we’re all just waiting for Konami to say it out loud.
Metal Gear Solid 4 has been long marooned on the PS3, surrounded by the ocean that is the Cell architecture of seventh-gen console that has made it difficult for any game released originally during that time period to come to PS5. The saving grace for most is already having a PS4-port, which MGS4 never got.
Okamura’s words finally add a bit more weight to the rumours that Vol. 2 of the collection will include not just MGS4 but Metal Gear Solid V and Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker.
When asked directly about MGS4 coming in Vol.2, Okamura replied:
“We definitely are aware of this situation with MGS4. Unfortunately we can’t really say too much at the moment with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots!
Right now we still are internally concerned about what we should be doing for the future of the series. So sorry, we can’t really reveal anything at the moment. But stay tuned!”
It’s the kind of answer that sounds like Konami is just waiting for a public reveal coming at a showcase of some sort in the future. Considering Konami’s history with PlayStation, it could at the next State Of Play or PlayStation Showcase event.
Or Konami could wait until The Game Awards at the end of the year. Either way, it looks like we simply need to wait a bit longer to finally get the official confirmation it seems is definitely coming.
