Krafton Continues AI Push By Promoting Kangwook Lee To Newly-Created Chief AI Officer Role

South Korean publisher Krafton is continuing with its much-publicised ‘AI First’ push as it has promoted Kangwook Lee, its former head of AI, to the role of Chief AI Officer (CAIO). According to the company, Lee will “oversee the company’s AI R&D and mid-to-long-term innovation strategy.”

Krafton’s AI plans are built around three core pillars, namely “elevating gameplay, “enhancing operational efficiency” and “securing new growth drivers.” Speaking on his new role, Lee commented:

Krafton uses AI as a tool to amplify human imagination and creativity, not replace it. Rooted in our core gaming business, Krafton will continue to explore future possibilities backed by AI innovation and data for long-term growth and player value.

In November 2025, a report on Business Korea had stated that Krafton was launching a voluntary resignation program for its employees, rather than introducing a layoff plan. Instead, this initiative is design “to support members proactively designing their growth direction and embarking on new challenges both inside and outside the company amid the era of AI transformation.”

Krafton acquired Tango Gameworks back in August 2024, the studio behind The Evil Within and High-Fi Rush, after the company was shuttered by its previous owner, Microsoft.
