Jeff Grubb has touched base on Mass Effect 5 during the latest Game Mess Mornings podcast, and reckons we’re a long way from getting our hands on the game — he even drops 2029 as a possible launch window for the game.
While that may seem like an extreme estimate, Grubb made it clear that Mass Effect 5 is very far out at this point, and that the recent teaser for the project was something that BioWare felt they had to do for the annual N7 Day celebrations. Mass Effect 5 has already been teased a few times at this point, all for N7 Day, but nothing concrete on the sequel has been shown yet.
The trailer is a small teaser of a person in a cool outfit walking down a hallway, and that’s it. This game is just nowhere near coming out. I was told, when they revealed Dragon Age Dreadwolf in 2018, this is similar in terms of timeline; that was announced in 2018, and we’re not getting that game until maybe next year. So now do the math for that, and we’re talking 2029 for Mass Effect 5.
Right now there’s no way of telling when Mass Effect 5 will come out, and BioWare is keeping mum on any concrete details. It’s still in the early stages of pre-production at this point, that much is clear, but hopefully we’ll get a better idea of where it’s at once Dragon Age Dreadwolf is out.
BioWare first announced the new Mass Effect game at The Game Awards 2020, and later revealed some fresh art work for the game at N7 Day the following year that hinted at the return of the Geth. Last year’s teaser also dropped on N7 Day, and featured a voice teaser from Liara T’Soni.
