Mass Effect TV Series Wasn’t Asked To Undergo Rewrites To Appeal To Non-Gamers, Says Exec Producer Daniel Casey

Reports that Amazon’s Mass Effect TV series was requested to undergo rewrites to make it more appealing to non-gamers have been shot down by executive producer Daniel Casey.

In case you missed it, a report on The Ankler earlier this month claimed that Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global TV, Peter Friedlander, had started reading scripts to make firm decisions in regards to the company’s in-development Prime Video projects. Mass Effect is obviously among them, and was apparently requested to undergo rewrites as a result.

However, when asked about this report by a user on BlueSky, Casey responded with the following:

“So, I can’t talk about the specifics of what I’m writing (I’ve signed NDAs, etc) – but for whatever it’s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you.” He went on to add that he doesn’t “know where that ‘non-gaming audiences’ quote came from,” or who actually said it. However, he noted that “at no point has that been said” to him.

The Mass Effect TV series remains in development at Amazon Prime and is set to tell an original story in the universe created by BioWare, and as such won’t be a retelling of the first three games featuring Commander Shepard.
