Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain developer has no plans for story DLC

Konami’s Robert Allan Peer has confirmed that there are currently no plans to release story-based DLC for the critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The comments come following reports of Konami’s exit from ‘AAA’ video game development, which was later shot down by the publisher itself. While the reports claimed that only Pro Evolution Soccer would be focused on in regards to major software releases, Konami itself later reaffirmed its commitment to the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Silent Hill.

Elsewhere, Peer touched on the feature mentioned by the game’s director, Hideo Kojima, regarding the chance to revisit Camp Omega from Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. As it stands, this is related to the upcoming Metal Gear Online 3, and is one of the mission areas not connected to the main storyline.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is out now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game takes place nine years after the events of Ground Zeroes, and sees Big Boss (aka Punished Snake) on a mission to Afghanistan to avenge the attack on Mother Base from the previous game.

The Phantom Pain picked up glowing reviews from critics upon its release, and topped the U.K. All Format Charts with the lion’s share of sales going to the PS4 version. Over in Japan, the stealth-action title achieved the series’ fifth highest sales in terms of day-one performance.

Sadly, the game’s development has been dogged by the controversial situation regarding Kojima-san and Konami, which resulted in the former exiting the publisher following The Phantom Pain’s development. Nonetheless, Kojima-san himself has said that he aims to ‘keep creating’ for the rest of his life, and insists he has ‘no regrets’ over the whole affair.
