Metro Awakening VR is officially out today for anyone with a VR headset to grab (though if you purchased the Deluxe version you got it two days ago).
It’s unexpectedly one of the best games of the year, particularly if you’re a horror fan – but not if you’re scared of spiders. Even if you wouldn’t say you have arachnophobia, and that they just creep you out a little bit, Metro Awakening’s spider-sections can be seriously disturbing.
So any spider-fearing horror fans will be happy to know that developer Vertigo Games is indeed bringing an arachnophobia mode to the game, and it’ll be made available in a “post-launch update.”
The studio confirmed the news directly to PSU in response to our review, which makes note of the spider sections being particularly difficult to play through. In a press release about Awakening’s launch today, it was added that the mode will let “players explore Metro Awakening’s eerie tunnels without encountering any spiders.”
In our review of Metro Awakening VR, we said “Metro Awakening is rich with atmosphere, strong performances, and tight gameplay that makes it one of the best survival horror games in the genre.”
“Even though the story loses steam before the end and stealth combat fails to impress, the rest of its best parts make for an unmissable game for any horror fans with a VR headset laying around.”
