4A Games is beavering away on a sequel to Metro Exodus and the game is already in a fully playable state, according to a new report on Insider Gaming.
The website speculates that the Metro Exodus sequel could be announced this year some time, and a release planned for 2024 seems likely going by how 4A Games handled Metro Exodus’ schedule.
The news may not come as much of a surprise to fans of the series, as 4A Games said back in 2020 on its website that it was “working on the next Metro game.”
It’s no secret that we have already started work on the next Metro game. Using everything we’ve learned from the last 15 years, we’ve set our sights even higher – the next title is being built for Gen 9 consoles and PC, with a complete overhaul of our engine and renderer to take advantage of the new power, storage, and hardware supported ray tracing afforded by the new consoles.”
According to Insider Gaming, it is believed the Metro Exodus sequel will start off with a dream sequence, after which you’ll wake up in your base of operations. The game itself will adhere to the classic Metro template of stealth, crafting, and collecting key resources
Metro Exodus was released in February 2015 for PS4, PC and Xbox One. The game was later re-released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in the shape of Metro Exodus Complete Edition with all new bells and whistles. You can read our review of the Complete Edition here.
