NetherRealm Studios hasn’t officially announced Mortal Kombat 12 yet, but that hasn’t stopped the Internet rumour mill from tipping the game for a reveal during the next PlayStation Showcase.
With E3 now cancelled and Summer Game Fest the next big gaming event on the calendar, Sony will obviously want to host its own offering to rival Microsoft’s huge Xbox and Bethesda events this summer. As noted by Insider-Gaming, it has been reported that the next PlayStation Showcase will take place in May — and Mortal Kombat 12 is one of the reveals being lined up.
Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019 and has generated a staggering $500 million in profit, and in terms of fighting games, we’re looking at a very busy year ahead of us, with Street Fighter 6 dropping in June and Tekken 8 also on the horizon, most probably an early 2024 release.
As for the PlayStation Showcase, a number of popular insiders have spoke out about when we can expect the event. First up, Jeff Grubb reckons it will take place before Summer Game Fest, while Nick Baker suggests that MK12 will be announced at the event. Finally, Jez Cordon claims that MK12 will be announced in May.
In related news, the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat film franchise is filming this summer in Australia.
