New GTA V update for PS3 targets sneaky game cheaters

Grand Theft Auto V for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 has received a new title update this week, with developer Rockstar Games aiming to clamp down on cheaters.

Specifically, the update "contains a range of updates to anti-cheat measures and additional bug fixes." That’s your lot sadly, although it’s still nice to see that Rockstar is catering to last-generation gamers, as most of the recent updates have been for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of the acclaimed open-world actioner.

In fact, the PS3 version missed the Lowriders DLC entirely, with the last major update to the game coming in the shape of the Heists for GTA Online. Grand Theft Auto V’s online component is still proving incredibly popular with gamers, with around eight million players taking part in the action on a weekly basis.

GTA V was released in September 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, becoming the fastest-selling video game of all time by generating an eye-watering $800 million in just 24 hours. To put into perspective just how well the game sold, GTA V managed to outpace lifetime sales of its predecessor in just six weeks—by that point in time, GTA IV had been on sale for five years. By February 2014, the game had become one of the best-selling games of all time with 32.5 million shipments worldwide. GTA V later arrived on PS4 and Xbox One and cemented the acclaimed crime caper as the best-selling game of all time in the U.K., with GTA Online Heists later propelling the game back to the top of the charts.

To date, the critically acclaimed Rockstar title has shipped an impressive 54 million copies worldwide, although it’s anyone’s guess as to when we’ll see the inevitable GTA 6. Read our full review of GTA V on PS4.
