New PS4 bundle announced, includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has announced a new PlayStation 4 hardware bundle featuring a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Standard Bundle includes a 500GB PS4 console, a DualShock 4 controller in matching Jet Black, plus a copy of Activision’s latest entry in its multi-million selling shooter franchise. The bundle will set you back $349.99. The timing’s not too bad either, as Black Ops 3 receives its first major expansion, Awakening, in early 2016. Furthermore, as part of Sony’s new partnership with Activision, it’ll be playable on PS4 30 days before any other format.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was recently updated to version 1.04 with a new patch, which among other things introduced microtransactions via Call of Duty Points. The military shooter was released in early November and managed to outsell Fallout 4 in the U.S. during that month, as well as topping the PlayStation Store charts to boot. Unsurprisingly for the series, Black Ops 3 became the year’s biggest entertainment launch, generating $550 million in just three days.

Black Ops 3 takes place 40 years after the events of its predecessor in the year 2065. With air assault rendered virtually useless thanks to the application of several high-tech defenses, combat around the globe now takes place behind enemy lines in covert operations. In this war zone however, soldiers possess superhuman abilities, with humans now considered more machine than flesh and blood thanks to the array of enhancements to their bodies.

As with the previous game, Black Ops 3 follows a group of super soldiers belonging to an elite black ops unit as they battle across a series of futuristic environments, wielding an assortment of deadly weaponry. The campaign can be played alone or with up to four friends, while Zombies will include its own campaign as well as multiplayer, along with a revamped XP system.
