Steven Paul, CEO of Crystal Sky, has confirmed that work is underway on an all-new entry in the Tekken movie franchise.
Tekken: Rise of the Tournament is a prequel to the 2010 straight-to-DVD original, and will be directed by Ong Bak maestro Prachya Pinkaew. Unlike its predecessor however, this movie will receive a domestic theatrical release.
Details are sketchy at best, though it is known the flick won’t feature any major stars. Instead, Paul hopes to hire actors who bear a strong resemblance to the characters featured in the games.
The next instalment in the Tekken videogame franchise, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2012.
