Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has taken to Instagram to share his progress on preparing for the role of Kratos in Amazon’s God of War series, revealing he’s in his their week of hardcore weights training.
The ex-WWE star posted a video of himself set to the tune of “Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in,” and offered the caption, “3rd week into weight training again. 2 more months to get to where I need to be. Like ridin’ a bike! LFG!” He’s then shown flexing off his already-impressive physique. Bautista is noted to have slimmed down somewhat recently in comparison to his bulkier MCU days, but he still looks absolutely ripped and in fantastic shape.
Bautista wasn’t the original choice to play Kratos, as Ryan Hurst was originally cast in the role and had started filming before suffering an injury. Production was postponed as a result, but due to the amount of time required for Hurst’s injury to heal, it was decided to instead recast the role with Bautista stepping in to replace Hurst.
Amazon and Sony had previously revealed that the God of War series will feature Callum Vinson as Atreus, Max Parker (Heimdall), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), and Mandy Patinkin (Odin). God of War will feature Ronald D. Moore as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Executive producers including Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Sad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hurst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
Amazon has yet to confirm when the God of War series will premiere.
