Crystal Dynamics has announced that it’s working on a new Tomb Raider game, which will be powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Speaking during the State of Unreal 2022 presentation, Dallas Dickinson, Tomb Raider’s Franchise General Manager, made it clear the game is still very early in production, and said that its goal is to “push the envelope of fidelity and deliver the high-quality cinematic action/adventure experience” that fans of the series expect.
Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5. This new engine translates into next level storytelling in gameplay experiences. And that’s why we are thrilled to announce today that we have just started development of our next Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action / adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise. We can’t wait to take this journey together.

The last entry in the series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, came out in September 2018 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and was the final chapter in the reboot franchise that began in 2013.
