No Man’s Sky is 30 to 35 hours, says early player

PlayStation gamers are, understandably, beyond excited for No Man’s Sky. The ultra-wide-open space exploration sim from Hello Games is out August 9, and after years of waiting, we can’t wait to reach the center of a near-infinite universe with millions upon millions of procedurally generated planets while blasting away at any poor fool who stands in our way.

It seems it will take an RPG’s length to do so–about 30 to 35 hours, says one player.

Redditor daymeeuhn snagged an early copy of No Man’s Sky for $1,700 off eBay, and in a bizarre weekend saga, began posting videos and impressions of his one-man journey into the abyss. This drew the ire of Hello Games’ Sean Murray, who asked fans not to spoil the experience by imbibing daymeeuhn’s content.

That got daymeeuhn to give the early spoilers a rest (though it seems he’s returned to periodic streaming), but he did reveal that it took him around 30 to 35 hours to reach the center of the universe while collecting every craftable recipe.

This is nowhere near the full content of the game–think of an indescribably vast expanse that may never be fully explored by players–but given that reaching the center is considered the game’s narrative ending, it’s something that almost every player will be gunning for. And it doesn’t seem particularly daunting to reach.

No Man’s Sky is out August 9 as a console exclusive on PlayStation 4. Game reviewers won’t be receiving copies in advance, but we’ll bring you our impressions and tell you whether it’s worth a buy as soon as we can. If you’ve fallen behind the news, there are a couple trailers to catch up on, and rest assured knowing that a PS Plus subscription isn’t required to play this online.
