Sony has issued a statement on No Man’s Sky following reports that the console giant had suspiciously covered up an online play logo on the game’s packaging.
Gamers who purchased the limited edition of Hello Games’ space exploration title discovered that a sticker had been strategically placed on the back cover to obscure an online play logo. This prompted many to believe changes had been made to the game shortly before manufacturing.
However, Sony has since said that this isn’t the case at all, and the issue was simply down to an honest gaffe in production.
"Incorrect descriptors were incorporated into the original No Man’s Sky limited edition packaging," said the company (via Push Square). "This was a production issue and was rectified using placement stickers."
No Man’s Sky is now available for PS4 in the U.S. and U.K., and arrives on PC later this evening. From what we can gather, things have been quite a success so far, with a whopping 10 million species discovered in-game during its first 24 hours on sale.
Set in a sprawling open-world universe, No Man’s Sky combines exploration, combat, and trading as gamers venture into deep space, discovering new species and planets and sharing their findings with fellow players via the Atlas system.
Although gamers are part of a shared universe, you won’t actually be able to bump into each other if you happen to end up in the same location.
