No Man’s Sky’s game-breaking bug and how to avoid it

Reports of a particularly vicious No Man’s Sky bug have started cropping up online, with reports suggesting that players affected by the issue can only resolve the problem by deleting their save file and starting from scratch.

The bug has been traced back to the pre-order ship bonus for No Man’s Sky, which comes equipped with a Hyperdrive—a vital tool for deep-space travel. However, players are reporting that accessing the ship can result in the game skipping an early tutorial, thus not obtaining the Hyperdrive blueprint.

While the bonus ship does indeed have this tool installed, if you want to trade it in for a new model down the line that lacks a Hyperdrive, you can’t install one due to the fact you haven’t got the blueprint.

Problematically, it seems that no new ships that you come across have the Hyperdrive installed due to the game bug. As such, you can’t travel to new star systems, and since you can’t repeat the aforementioned tutorial, you are effectively stranded where you are.

Anyone who has access to the pre-order ship should take care to complete the tutorial in order to gain access to the Hyperdrive blueprint. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck and have no choice but to reboot your progress or hold out until (fingers crossed) Hello Games offers a patch for the issue.
