The NPD Group has unveiled the latest sales figures for the month of December 2007, with Sony issuing its own response to the numbers, stating it feels the company performed well given the circumstances, noting the best is yet to come.
Of particular note is the USD 74 million generated in hardware revenues attributed to the company’s PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles, a figure that is claimed to have surpassed rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.
Elsewhere, it is revealed that the PS3 sold through 798,000 units during the month of December, while the PlayStation Portable and PS2 both sold approximately 1.1 million units during the same period.
On the software front, the PS2 version of Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock sold a total of 2.7 million units from October – December 2007, with overall PlayStation software revenue generating USD 822 in December alone.
Finally, the following titles represented the PlayStation brand in the multiformat top 10 last month:
-Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
-Madden NFL 08
-Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare
Impressed with its results for the end of 2007, Sony now looks forward with confidence to an auspicious period through 2008.
