Capcom will released Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25, 2026, according to a social media leaker who has previously provided details on the as-yet unannounced Rayman Legends: Retold.
The tipster noted that the info is old and therefore the release date may have changed, but as Sony is hosting a new State of Play tomorrow evening, there’s a strong chance we may get confirmation during the event. Failing that, we also have Summer Game Fest on Friday, so it could show up there instead.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword sees players hopping into the role of Miyamoto Musashi, who is based on the appearance of Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese actor who appeared in more than 180 different roles including Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, and the Hidden Fortress.
This lates entry in the Onimusha franchise follows Musashi as he explores a dark fantasy version of Kyoto during the Edo period, where he battles against demonic swordsmen and other supernatural threats. Equipped with a powerful sword, Musashi is able to strike and parry opponents, while depleting his foes’ stamina will allow you to utilise the Break Issen mechanic, which dismembers enemies for a swift kill.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
