Project Morpheus PS4 owners will need to ‘spend several hundred dollars’ for their VR experience

It looks like the Project Morpheus price leak that we reported a couple of weeks ago may be spot on. While some mocked the €399 price tag slapped on Sony’s VR headset by an Austrian retailer as ludicrous, it appears it’s not far off the mark following comments made by Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida yesterday.

As reported by PushSquare (via Wired), Yoshida drops the bombshell:

“We need to convince PS4 owners to spend several hundred dollars to purchase a Project Morpheus headset, on top of the PS4 they already have," he told Wired. "And more gaming content is what will convince them. We have 30 or more games being developed that we are tracking – not all of them will come out at launch, but there are serious efforts being made on all of them."

Yep, “several hundred dollars.” We really think Project Morpheus is going to live or die by its price tag, and at that cost it’s going to isolate a huge audience. Yes, the games look cool, but €399 worth of cool? We definitely have our reservations about the high price tag, if indeed there’s not a re-think, though perhaps we’ll be more convinced as we head towards its 2016 release date.
