Sony’s PlayStation 3 is far and away the finest piece of kit that anyone has managed to cobble together, though doesn’t quite top the Xbox 360, says id Software co-founder John Carmack.
The legendary developer dropped the bombshell during a chinwag with GamesTM (via NowGamer), where he also described how he feels it’s a “great” time to be a games developer.
"The PS3 is still far and away better than anything else that’s ever been made… except maybe the 360," said Carmack.
"It’s a great time to be a developer," he continued. "It’s not like working with the Sega Saturn or the PS2, where these are really kind of quirky, cranky, architectures that are not, well, architected, I would say."
Despite snuggling up with Microsoft’s five-year old console, however, Carmack made it clear he’s got nothing negative to say about rival Sony’s flagship platform.
“Because I do favour the 360, it doesn’t mean I have anything all that negative to say about the PS3,” he added.
