Twitter account Obsolete Sony, which is dedicated to forgotten and old devices released by the electronics giant, has revealed that the PS3 will be the last seventh generation console to have a working digital store as of July 2024.
The Nintendo Wii shop is no longer available to access, and Microsoft recently announced plans to close the Xbox 360 store on July 29, 2024. Sony originally planned to shutter the PS3 store alongside the PS Vita and PSP stores, but decided instead to keep them open (although the PSP store was shuttered).
As a result, unless something changes, the PS3’s online store will be the only one of that generation of hardware that will still function. Here’s hoping that Sony keeps it active for the sake of game preservation.
