Yujin Morisawa, the senior art director who spearheaded the design of the PS5, has revealed that his initial scribblings of the console were actually larger than the final design that’s hitting shelves later this week.
PS5 Designer Reveals Console Was Originally Bigger
Speaking during an interview with the Washington post, Morisawa-san revealed that engineering told him that the design was too big, and so it was toned down somewhat from his initial drawing.
When you design something, you want to make it feel comfortable. Sometimes it looks like a plant or some animal or some object. I think that’s more comfortable than something that’s weird, or something that they’ve never seen before.
When I started drawing, it was much larger even though I didn’t know what engineering was going to do. It’s kind of funny that engineering actually told me it’s too big. So, I actually had to shrink it down a little bit from the first drawing.
The PS5 is due for release in the US and Japan on November 12 and in the UK and Europe on November 19.
