In the UK, that’s resulted in sales being up 81% for the year so far compared to the first five months of 2022. Despite the overall increase however, May 2023 console sales fell short of May 2022’s console sales by 23%.
While it’s unclear why sales fell for the month of May compared to May 2022, it doesn’t look good when sales fall in the same month that PlayStation hosts a PlayStation Showcase it had hyped up to be the place fans would learn about what’s to come for the remained of 2023.
Players left the showcase with more questions remaining than the ones that were answered, even with the show’s biggest features. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for example still doesn’t have an officially confirmed release date.
This isn’t to say console sales are in any kind of dire position, but what’s to come for the rest of the year remains a mystery, and Sony need to start showing more reasons beyond Spider-Man 2’s release for why people should be buying a PS5 this fall and winter season.
