As previously reported on PSU, the PS5 has now shipped 84.2 million units worldwide, an impressive figure on its own but perhaps even more so when you consider it has now put the console ahead of every Xbox system released to date.
Microsoft announced back in June 2014 that it had sold 84 million Xbox 360 console worldwide, ahead of the system being discontinued in 2016. That was over ten years ago mind you, so within that time there’s no reason why the console hasn’t managed to shift another million or so, although as far as official figures go, PS5 is technically ahead of the Xbox 360 now.
The original Xbox, released in 2001, has moved around 24 million unit worldwide, having just managed to beat the Nintendo GameCube during that era but obviously trailing far behind the PS2. The Xbox One, which arrived in 2014, has shipped north of 58 million units, although Microsoft stopped divulging sales figures during that hardware generation and as a result has not issued figures for Xbox Series X/S.

However, it is believed that the PS5 has managed to outsell Microsoft’s latest home console by a ratio of 2:1, putting it comfortably in the lead.
