PSVR 2 Will Be Powered By MediaTek’s First SoC For VR

MediaTek has announced that its first SoC for VR will be powering Sony’s upcoming PSVR 2 headset.

The company announced the news during its Executive Summit this week, where it offered a glimpse at PSVR 2 to attendees. There wasn’t anything else revealed during the event, but it does confirm previous rumours from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo back in May that MediaTek would be powering PSVR 2.

Sony announced recently that the PSVR 2 will be released on February 22, 2023 and will retail for $549.99. You can also pick up the new virtual reality headset with a copy of Horizon: Call Of The Mountain for $599.99.

PSVR 2 will feature brand new Sense controllers that use similar functionality to the DualSense controller, namely haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

In terms of specifications, PSVR 2 includes 4K HDR OLED 4000×2040 HDR display with 100 field of vision, with resolution per eye clocking in at 2000×2040 pixels, with a panel refresh rate of 90/120Hz.
