As a part of today’s indie game reveals, Sony has showcased Puzzling Places, a unique and intriguing looking PSVR game that has you literally piecing together landmarks and locations from around the world.

Set to release in Winter 2021, it is described on the PlayStation Blog as a “relaxing, meditative, and flow-inducing game built on the age-old concept of jigsaw puzzles”. But, these puzzles are 3D scans of locations from around the globe.

Realities.io, the team behind the game were formed to create real-world places in VR, that are fully explorable and using photogrammetry and the team’s own software, these locations can be looked at and pieced together.

The game was created through an accident, which jumbled all their pieces of a model, leading to the idea of the game. The idea is simple and can be done by just picking up two objects and placing them together, moving from one to the other. As these are 3D models, you won’t just place pieces together, you will also place objects within a model to help build it out. Once all the pieces have been placed the environment will spring to life with a soundscape of different noises.

You can watch the reveal trailer for Puzzling Places on PSVR below. The game is currently in beta on Oculus Quest and has mostly positive reviews.

Puzzling Places releases for PSVR in Winter 2021 and is playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
