Ubisoft has lifted the wraps off its plans for Rainbow Six Siege Year 3, detailing a host of fresh content for the popular tactical shooter.
The game’s third year will be split into four seasons, and will offer a total of eight new operators and two new maps.
In addition, Ubisoft is going to be tweaking existing maps to keep things fresh.Perhaps the most interesting news is that Year 3 will incorporate a Zombie-themed mode, though more on that later.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 3 will kick off with Operation Chimera, which offers up two new operators for France and Russia.
These new characters will be skilled in dealing with biohazard outbreaks and form part of a week-long cooperative event known as Mission Outbreak. This is likely the zombie-type mode that Ubisoft has been teasing.
From what we know, Mission Outbreak pits a team of three operators against AI opponents, although we won’t find out more info until mid-February at the Six Invitational.
Moving on, the second season of Year 3 will bring in two Italian GIS operators plus a new map set in Italy. Following this, Rainbow Six Siege will see a ‘hybrid season’ introduced, with operators from Great Britain and the United States of America joining the roster.
However, there won’t be a new map to accompany the duo. Instead, Ubisoft will be rebalancing existing maps, with the Favela being reworked and joining the multiplayer rotation once more.
Ubisoft also plans to tweak other classic maps for the game, teasing: “What if House is now set in Christmas, or Hereford Base is in a different time period, or has a new extension in the building?”
Rounding out Year 3 will be a visit to Africa, with two Moroccan operators joining the fold and a new North African-based map to accompany them.
Rainbow Six Siege was released for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in December 2015.
