Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in the works since at least 2014 – report

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has been in development since at least 2014, according to the online portfolio of industry sound designer, Joe Cavers.

The folks on Reddit snapped an image of Cavers’ CV, where he clearly states that he has been working on the Wild West sequel for the past two years. Furthermore, Cavers presumably came on board well into the game’s production cycle, so when you factor in conceptualization and early development, it’s likely the game has been in the works for close to five years now.

Red Dead Redemption 2 release date set for next fall

Red Dead Redemption 2 was officially announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last month, where Rockstar confirmed the game will hit stores in fall 2017. Details on the game are largely being kept under wraps at present, although the developer has confirmed the sequel will feature a dedicated online space, similar to what we’ve seen with Grand Theft Auto Online.

In addition, Rockstar has said that PS4 players will gain early access to specific content, although nothing has been elaborated on in regards to this. From the look of the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer however, it appears that the game will feature seven prominent characters as far as the campaign goes.

Take-Two said last week that the game will pack an emotional punch in terms of storytelling, while Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter, feels the Wild West sequel will generate around 15-20 million in global sales.

The original Red Dead Redemption was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 back in May 2010, and has shipped over 14 million copies worldwide. Rumors had recently cropped up suggesting the critically acclaimed title would be receiving a high-definition makeover for PS4 and Xbox One, although nothing official has been confirmed.
