Rockstar Games is “hard at work” on a number of new titles which will be revealed “soon,” Take-Two said during its latest earnings report overnight, fueling speculation that a new Red Dead Redemption title is in the pipeline.
Details regarding the new titles were not divulged during the report, although we do know that Take-Two has a new IP in the works. Whether or not that is one of the titles Rockstar is chiselling away at remains unknown at this point.
In terms of performance during the financial quarter, Take-Two revealed that numbers were actually better than expected.
"Fiscal 2016 marked the third consecutive year of stronger-than-expected Non-GAAP revenues and profits for Take-Two," commented Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick. "Our results were driven by the continued extraordinary performance of Grand Theft Auto V, ongoing momentum in our NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, the successful launch of XCOM 2, and our highest-ever revenue from recurrent consumer spending."
As for Red Dead Redemption 2, rumors of a follow-up to 2010’s Wild West hit, which was released six years ago today, have been doing the rounds for quite a while now. Recently, it was suggested the title will be a prequel following a leak of the game’s supposed map.
Rockstar and Take-Two have never ruled out the possibility of a new Red Dead Redemption game, though nothing official has ever been confirmed regarding its development. However, the publishing behemoth has confirmed that it will have a major E3 presence this year, which has given credence to rumors suggesting a Red Dead Redemption 2 reveal is imminent.
The original game attracted critical acclaim upon its release and has shipped an impressive 14 million copies worldwide as of August 2015.
