Resident Evil 7 Not a Hero DLC spoiler alert!
According to the DLC event flags, the upcoming ‘Not A Hero’ DLC will focus on series regular Chris Redfield as he attempts to apprehend Lucas Baker – the would-be Jigsaw maniac who sadly didn’t get his comeuppance in the course of the narrative.
Through a little bit of exposition found in the main campaign it’s made clear that while Lucas is infected by Eveline he isn’t controlled by the virus in the same way that both his parents, Marguerite and Jack are – he’s actually cognizant of the dastardly acts he’s committing, and better still, he’s in contact with an unnamed third party whom he provides information to. Thus it makes sense for the upcoming DLC to focus on probably the biggest question posed by the ending.
And despite the sizable amount of speculation that posited that series mercenary, the ever-elusive Hunk, may in fact be impersonating Chris Redfield in a bid to gain Ethan’s trust, (who may himself be an ex-Umbrella employee) we’re not against the idea of resuming command of the boulder-punching anti-bio-terrorism operative and taking down Lucas once and for all. We’ll happily do it for the Sewer Gators. Still haven’t gotten over Clancy.
If we were to hazard a guess about Not A Hero’s actual run of play, we’d say that given the fact that Lucas is a master of explosive devices and trickery, the tight-knit expansion could see Redfield having to negotiate a maze-like structure – with limited inventory given the code leak – whilst at the same time having to fend off a new ‘Extreme White Moulded’ as Lucas cowardly evades the inevitable.
As for hardened details, the data-mined information mentions saving two ‘Bravo’ team members, retrieving some data/documents, entering locales such as a ship, a salt dome, and excitingly, a cliff, before finally arresting Lucas and then, curiously, the last line of code reads ”Task15_Eavesdrop_LucasAndConnection.” Take that how you wish. Though we will say it does sound a little samey, since the final third of the main game revolved around both a ship and a barren salt mine — we’re just hoping that Lucas’ revelation is worth the wait.
Of course, we’re still hoping that the DLC shines a light on exactly why Redfield is in an Umbrella helicopter, considering the fact that he’s spent his adult life fending off the advances of the malevolent pharmaceutical corporation. Let’s hope there’s a fleshed out reason either way.
Resident Evil 7 has been a commercial and critical success for Capcom. Featuring arguably the best Resident Evil villain to have graced the long-running series, Resident Evil 7 sales have reached over 3 million copies and its subsequent PlayStation VR update was deemed as one of the scariest virtual reality experiences to date.
The Resident Evil 7 Not a Hero DLC will be the third piece of free content following the two-part Banned Footage DLC. A firm release date for the new content has yet to be revealed, but it’s expected to launch this Spring.
