Capcom News PS5 Resident Evil Resident Evil CODE Veronica remake Resident Evil Zero Remake

Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica Remakes Reportedly May Not Be As ‘Ambitious’ As RE4 Remake

Capcom’s as-yet unannounced Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica remakes are unlikely to be quite as ambitious as Resident Evil 4‘s 2023 makeover, insider Dusk Golem has indicated.

Speaking on Discord, Golem, who was the person who originally leaked the remakes as being in production before having the report corroborated by IGN, revealed that Resident Evil 4 Remake is something of a “crown jewel” for Capcom, and made it clear we perhaps should keep our expectations in check for future efforts.

Capcom don’t really plan for there to be a remake as ‘ambitious’ as RE4. In many ways, that was the crown jewel of remakes and the most challenging one to tackle in scale, scope, expectation.

As mentioned, Capcom hasn’t announced it is remaking Resident Evil Zero or CODE: Veronica yet, but it did confirm last December that it is planning on more remakes in the franchise, so we know something is in the pipeline. Most people were banking on Resident Evil 5 getting the remake treatment next, and it was also rumoured that Resident Evil 1 was getting remade, but Golem previously dismissed both claims.

Resident Evil Zero was originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in November 2002 and is a prequel to the original game, and features Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen battling the undead 24 hours before the Mansion Incident. Resident Evil CODE: Veronica meanwhile arrived in 2000 for the Dreamcast and picks up three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, reuniting Chris and Claire Redfield.

Capcom is marking the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil in 2026, so at some point in the next year or so we expect some major developments for the series, hopefully which includes Resident Evil 9.
