New details on the long-rumoured Resident Evil Zero Remake have surfaced in a report on MP1st, which reveals the project will feature actor Jon McLaren of 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy fame.
The remake of 2002’s survival horror title has been in the works for a few years now, and is reportedly known as Project Chamber, which no doubt references one of the game’s main characters, Rebecca Chambers. According to the report, performance and voice capture work started in 2024, and McLaren’s resume mentions him having a lead role in Project Chamber. Presumably, this means he’s playing the second main character in Resident Evil Zero, namely Billy Coen.

Beyond Capture Studios is listed as being involved in the Resident Evil Zero Remake, which had previously collaborated with Capcom on Resident Evil Remake 4 and Street Fighter 6. Beyond this, MP1st states that the source material will be expanded on like previous Resident Evil remakes.
An example of this involves the train conductor, who was not physically seen in the original version of Resident Evil Zero but is now set to betray Rebecca by first asking for help to stop the train before locking her in with a group of zombies. The character will then be seen later on conversing with a mysterious individual who wasn’t named.
Keep in mind that nothing has been announced yet by Capcom regarding a Resident Evil Zero Remake. However, insider Dusk Golem has mentioned the project is in the works on numerous occasions over the past year or so, and claims the game is set to come out in 2028.
Resident Evil Zero was originally released for the GameCube in November 2002 and takes place 24 hours before the events of the original game. Players follow S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team medic Rebecca Chambers as she is separated from her team and investigates a zombie-infested train and other locations, while teaming up with Billy Coen, a 26-year-old ex-Marine and escaped prisoner.
The game was one of the last major entries in the Resident Evil franchise to utilise the classic pre-rendered backdrops and tank controls, while adding a partner swapping feature that allowed players to switch between Chambers and Coen at any point. It also eschewed the item boxes in favour of allowing players to drop and pick up items as they see fit.
