Rise of the Tomb Raider may have sold less than 63,000 copies on Xbox One upon its release last week, but Evolution Studios’ Paul Rustchynsky reckons the game will perform ‘just fine’ when it finally arrives on PlayStation 4 in 2016.
The action-adventure sequel has been a hot topic on Twitter today, with Sony’s Chris Brown noting the game’s lacklustre sales came down to crowded market conditions, which saw Fallout 4 launch on the same week as Lara Croft’s latest outing. Interestingly, Brown noted that the post-apocalyptic RPG sold more copies on PS4 than the Xbox One. We’ve embedded Tweets from both Brown and Rustchynsky (via WCCFTech).
Poor Tomb Raider 😔. UK sales: Rise of the Tomb Raider <63k. And #Fallout4 – despite Microsoft Xbox One support – still sold better on PS4 😱

@That_Kid_Chris Don’t worry Tomb Raider will do just fine next year when it’s released on PS4 next year 😉

Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced as an Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive title at E3 2014, although it was later clarified that the game would be coming to PS4 and PC in holiday 2016. The game sees adventurer Lara Croft embarking on a quest to Siberia to uncover the ancient city of Kitezh, which is believed to hold the key to immortality.
On her journey, the nimble archaeologist will come up against all manner of dangers, including pugnacious wildlife, armed-to-the-teeth mercenaries, and the natural hazards of the ice-cold climate. Unlike its critically acclaimed predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider will not support multiplayer, although the single-player campaign has been expanded to incorporate more of the series’ trademark tombs to explore.
Tomb Raider was originally released on the PS3 in early 2013 and was later ported to PS4 in the shape of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition.
