According to Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, Capcom’s as-yet unannounced Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake is set to launch in 2027 and will see an official reveal at some point next year.
Speaking on X, Golem also touched briefly on Claire Redfield’s portrayal in the CODE: Veronica Remake, saying that fans should be happy with what Capcom are planning for the character, noting she isn’t getting sidelined.
What I’ve heard is Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake should be announced next year, and release in 2027, then Zero Remake releasing the following year in 2028. I’ll keep you posted if I hear differently. Oh well I think Claire fans will be happy since Claire is being treated as the main character. Chris isn’t getting sidelined or anything, Capcom realizes this is “RE Engine Remake Deput”, but it’s still very much Claire’s game. And their attitude for CVR has been to build upon it.
Rumours of a Resident Evil CODE: Veronica have been mounting since 2024, when Golem stated that Capcom was working on the project alongside a remake of Resident Evil Zero. These reports were also corroborated by a number of other sources. Since then, Golem has claimed that CODE: Veronica would be released first, with the remake of Zero following in 2028. He’s also let slip that players will be able to navigate a semi-open world Rockfrot Island using a motorbike that Claire gains access to.
Capcom officially confirmed that it would be remaking other titles in the Resident Evil franchise back in December 2023, but stopped short of revealing which games would be given an overhaul.
Resident Evil CODE: Veronica was originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000, and was ported to the PS2 the following year with additional content. The game picks up around three months after the events of Resident Evil 2, and sees Claire Redfield captured and taken to a zombie-infested island owned by Umbrella while searching for her brother, Chris.
