Sonic the Hedgehog’s 2022 outing hasn’t got an official title yet, and we don’t know much about it beyond that brief teaser trailer. However, SEGA said that it was necessary to reveal the game as it formed part of Sonic’s 30th anniversary celebrations this year.
Speaking with 4Gamer, Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team, acknowledged it may seem a bit early to reveal the new Sonic game, also hinted about the mysterious shape that the Blue Blur leaves behind him in the trailer.
We haven’t announced a brand new action game for the Sonic series since Sonic Forces, and that caused fans to worry. While it was a bit premature, I wanted to at least take the occasion of the 30th anniversary to announce that a brand new title was in development.
It is something symbolic that appears in the game, but the meaning is still a secret. However, I will say that it’s not something one would figure out through deduction. We’ll eventually share more details, so please wait a little longer.
Rumors have indicated that the new game will be titled Sonic Rangers, and will feature an open-world setting. Meanwhile, SEGA also has Sonic Colors Ultimate and Sonic Origins Collection on the way in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
