Sonic Unleashed lead designer Yoshihisa Hashimoto has said that the game will bare no relation to SEGA’s poorly received Sonic the Hedgehog title, released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2006.
"As a development team, we originally started off this project planning to create Sonic Adventure 3,” said Hashimoto.
"In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series. It has no relation to Sonic the Hedgehog [on PS3/Xbox 360] or Sonic and the Secret Rings".
As such, Hashimoto-san said that the game has been developed from the ground up, and "will purely be Sonic’s new product. Of course, players will still be able to enjoy Sonic’s symbolic actions such as Spin attack and Homing Attack".
Sonic Unleashed is shaping up to be a return to the series more traditional platforming roots, as well as introducing an entirely fresh concept, allowing gamers to control the blue hedgehog in werewolf form.
